Accessing Home works to bring low- and moderate-income families home through partnerships with affordable housing providers throughout Rhode Island.

AmeriCorps members are trained and professionally certified as Resident Services Coordinators to provide resource referrals, case management, and housing education.

Accessing Home AmeriCorps members deliver a variety of housing stabilization services,
including:

  • Advocating for tenants at risk of eviction by negotiating payment plans and providing important resource referrals

  • Educating tenants on issues of rights and responsibilities; facilitating public education workshops

  • Helping individuals and families apply for subsidized housing

  • Providing financial coaching, including budgeting and credit help, to households looking to build wealth

  • Assisting homeless individuals and families in finding suitable housing, building life skills, developing resumes, accessing job training, and obtaining services

  • Recruiting volunteers, providing community outreach and making referrals


Children's Friend - Parents as Partners AmeriCorps Program

Children’s Friend serves Rhode Island’s most vulnerable children and families. Services include Early Head Start, Head Start, WIC, adoption, foster care, help for families with substance abuse, counseling, assistance for children with developmental delays, and other child welfare and early childhood services.

The AmeriCorps members will serve in classrooms alongside a certified teacher during the school day and design and provide engaging, experiential learning activities during afterschool hours that bridge in school and out of school learning. Members will build safe and supportive relationships with students and engage them in school and during out of school time activities to develop lifelong learners.

AmeriCorps members will:

-Support the teacher by assisting with small group instruction and activities.

-Develop relationships with students and faculty to enable planning for appropriate and meaningful afterschool activities.

-Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to decrease absenteeism, improve academic outcomes and engage students in learning.

The goal is to decrease absenteeism and improve academic outcomes.

Farm Fresh manages a variety of programs, many of which increase the
availability and affordability of locally sourced food and share knowledge of

Hope’s Harvest food pantry donation and Harvest Kitchen youth culinary training

Save The Bay Aquarium

AmeriCorps Education Member

Aquarium Education AmeriCorps Members will be teaching marine science and conservation concepts to Aquarium students and public guests.

Members will be responsible for developing and teaching education programs and content focused on the Aquarium exhibits and in accordance with Save The Bay’s mission of “Protecting and Improving Narragansett Bay.”


SERVE

Fellows will work with Skills for Rhode Island’s Future “RI Small Business HUB,” providing critical business and operations supports in the areas of Business Planning, Marketing and Communications, Accounting, IT/Computer Services, Website Development and Maintenance, Data Collection and Analysis, and Human Resources.

LEARN

Fellows gain high-demand skills and experience through building the capacity for BIPOC led or focused nonprofit businesses, helping to drive economic development in the state of Rhode Island. Additionally, fellow will participate in professional development series throughout the service year.

EARN

Fellows are paid a living allowance of $21,000/year and work 1200 hours during the 2023/2024 academic year, plus the summer of 2024. Earn up to an additional $4,826.50 under the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, access to Health Insurance and more.


Teach for America (TFA) works to draw diverse leaders committed to educational equity to Rhode Island.

As an AmeriCorps professional corps, TFA recruits and supports 55 AmeriCorps members each year in K-12 schools in five cities throughout Providence County, especially in special education and STEM classrooms.

The AmeriCorps members teach for two years in high need, low-income schools to significantly improve educational outcomes and develop a diverse group of excellent teachers and school leaders.

TerraCorps places AmeriCorps Members, in 11-month service terms, at a network of 40+ community-nonprofits focused on protecting land and advancing equitable community land uses that support human health and environmental sustainability.

How to Apply

Each year, a new cohort of Members deploy to their service sites where they serve full-time (38 hours/week) for 1700-hour terms—individually or in cohorts—in 1 of 5 Coordinator positions managing capacity building and direct service projects aimed at specific needs of their service sites and the populations they serve.

At Generation Teach (GT), the shared vision is to end racial injustice and inequity in education by co-creating loving communities where generations of students, teachers, and leaders learn, grow, and develop. 

Generation Teach partners with districts and charter schools to: 

1.    Engage elementary- and middle-school students in summer learning.

2.    Invest undergraduate and high-school students in teaching.

3.    Develop professional teachers as leaders.

Generation Teach is currently recruiting undergraduate and high-school students to participate in our award-winning AmeriCorps Summer Teaching Fellowship and professional teachers to participate as AmeriCorps Team Leaders in the Generation Teach Leadership Residency.
