Become a Program

Organizations identify their community need, then design and implement an AmeriCorps program that will leverage people power as a solution. They recruit, train, and manage individuals, called AmeriCorps members, to deliver those services. Successful proposals describe how AmeriCorps service positions are an appropriate strategy to meet a community need AND identify supports for AmeriCorps participants to develop their career or continue their education.

Notice of Funding Availability - Deadline March 30, 2024

The Rhode Island Department of Education, on behalf of ServeRI, announces the availability of funding to recruit individuals, called AmeriCorps members, to perform paid community service at Rhode Island schools, nonprofit organizations, or government agencies. Successful proposals will describe how AmeriCorps service positions are an appropriate strategy to meet a community need AND will identify supports for AmeriCorps participants to develop their career or continue their education.  Both 3-year program grants and 1-year planning grants will be awarded. The deadline for proposals is March 30, 2024.

Intent to Apply

Applicants must signal their non-binding intent to apply by completing the Intent to Apply webform. The webform assists ServeRI in communicating with applicants. It contains a series of questions to determine if an applicant is ready to apply for an AmeriCorps grant.

eGrants Application

Applicants must respond to the proposal questions, select AmeriCorps performance measures, and enter a budget in eGrants – the AmeriCorps grant management system. New applicants need to establish an eGrants account by accessing the eGrants website and selecting “Don’t have an eGrants account? Create an account.” You will create both an individual account and profile for your organization. Follow the prompts in eGrants. Before starting the eGrants account, ServeRI recommends writing down your Employer Identification Number and Unique Entity Identifier number – both listed on SAM.gov – to be ready to input the information into eGrants. Applications must include an Employer Identification Number and valid Unique Entity Identifier (UEI).

Additional Documents

Please read the Notice for additional documents to submit, including the ServeRI AmeriCorps Grant Assurances (PDF). Additional documents should be sent by email to serveri@ride.ri.gov on or before March 30, 2024.

Ocean State Procures

Although it is not necessary for the application itself, in order for an entity to be awarded a grant, the applicant or fiscal agent for the grant must be registered as a vendor in Ocean State Procures, the State's electronic procurement system.

System for Award Management

All applicants must register with the System for Award Management (SAM) at https://www.sam.gov/SAM/ and maintain an active SAM registration until the application process is complete. If an applicant is awarded a grant, it must maintain an active SAM registration throughout the life of the award. See the SAM Quick Guide for Grantees

Start now. ServeRI recommends potential applicants do not delay in finalizing a new registration or renewing an existing SAM registration. You are ineligible to receive a grant award, if you are not registered by May 15th.

National Direct Consultation

National Direct Consultation requires multi-state (also known as national direct) applicants applying for competitive AmeriCorps funding to consult with the state or territorial service commission in the locations in which they are applying to place members. In order to streamline the consultation process, Rhode Island collaborates with other states in using the online form provided by America’s Service Commissions.
